Just like in any area, Philadelphia’s Main Line and our houses and properties may have certain regional idiosyncrasies that non-locals would never know to consider. Closing costs are how much!? Radon? What’s that? Or the fact that many homes use septic instead of public sewer systems? That’s a shock to many Philadelphia area relocators. Flood insurance? Do I need that? What do you mean I can’t put a pool in or build a garage? Can I move these radiators? Having only ever lived in newer construction, terms like “knob and tube” and “oil heat” are likely new vocabulary. Falling under the heading of “total mysteries”, we might have maintenance costs of an older home, including its mature trees and driveway that will need snow plowing. Getting the picture?
